Hong Kong champion Beauty Generation has had his first trial for trainer David Hayes

Trainer David Hayes had another lesson on his return to Hong Kong when new stable star Beauty Generation stepped out in a trial.

Hayes took over the training of the Hong Kong champion after previous trainer John Moore was forced to relinquish his licence because of his age at the end of last season.

However, Hayes has retained Beauty Generation’s strapper and work rider to keep the people consistent around the gelding.

Race rider Zac Purton rode Beauty Generation in the trial. Hayes told the Hong Kong Jockey Club he the son of Road To Rock pleased him with the way he finished the hitout.

“He’s come out of it well,” Hayes said. “He was beaten a bit for speed in the middle stages, but I thought through the line was pretty strong and more importantly Zac said he felt like his old self.”

Hayes said Beauty Generation was set to resume in the Group 3 Celebration Cup later this month.

But Hayes said he intended Beauty Generation to peak for the Hong Kong Mile in December.

“He’ll be better at a mile and what I’m trying to do is have him at his best in December – just building him up,” Hayes said.

“I’m still learning with him, but I think he’ll tighten up and improve and have a gallop next week and he should be ready to go in two weeks’ time.”

Hayes said Beauty Generation wasn’t the best track worker but had given every indication the old spark was still in the eight-year-old star.

“We’re happy – he’s not a blockbuster trackworker, like most champions,” Hayes said.

“Better Loosen Up couldn’t win a gallop and neither could Fields Of Omagh – Jeune was a freak.

“They’re all different but when they run consistently and compete like he does, the way he’s working, I’ll be surprised if he’s not his usual very competitive self.”
