Manny Pacquiao to announce retirement plan after illustrious career
Manny Pacquiao will announce his retirement plans at the same time as he confirms his return to the ring.
The eight-division world champion has not fought since he outpointed Keith Thurman almost two years ago.
He saw a fight with UFC star Conor McGregor scrapped after the Irishman was knocked out by Dustin Poirier in January.
Negotiations with world champion Terence Crawford also came to nothing after Crawford's promoter failed to secure funds from the Middle East.
Pacquiao's most likely opponent is Mikey Garcia whom he was due to fight last summer before the coronavirus crisis struck.
And the 42-year-old said: "The negotiations are ongoing. I will not go into details so that there will not be any problems."
When asked about his retirement, Pacquiao added: "We won't answer that for now, because that is part of the negotiations. That will be included in the announcement."
Pacquiao was made world champion "in recess" by the WBA earlier this year due to his inactivity.
In his place, Yordenis Ugas was promoted to welterweight champion despite not having a fight scheduled.
Pacquiao rolled back the years with his victory over Thurman in which he dropped his younger opponent in the first round.
Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather has revealed Pacquiao was the best opponent in his 50-fight professional career.
The rivals finally met in 2015 following years of negotiations with Mayweather comfortably outpointing the Filipino.
“The best fighter I ever fought probably was Manny Pacquiao,” Mayweather said.
“It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter and I can see why he won so many fights and I can see why he’s going down as a hall of famer. It’s just certain moves that he makes."
Of his roughest fight, Mayweather added: "The roughest fighter probably was a guy named Emmanuel Augustus.
"Miguel Cotto was very, very, physically strong. You got different fighters; different days you feel different ways. Some days you can go over there and you may not feel that good, but you go over there and look superb."
