Logan Paul a “complicated” fighter as coach pinpoints his main strengths
A top boxing coach has described Logan Paul as a “complicated fighter”, but conceded that the YouTuber isn’t “bringing any challenge to Floyd Mayweather” when the two men face off this weekend in an eight-round exhibition bout.
Paul, who lost to fellow YouTuber KSI in his only professional boxing match to date, has been based in Puerto Rico for the last few months and has called upon a wide range of training partners to aid his preparation for the exhibition contest.
One of these training partners was amateur boxer Lucas Ruiz, called upon to mimic the tricky style Mayweather brings to the table. Ruiz’ coach Gabriel Lamastus had a front-row seat for the spar and, in a recent interview, discussed what he thought of the YouTuber’s boxing ability.
“I would describe him as complicated,” Ruiz stated. “He’s a complicated fighter, but I wouldn’t say he’s a good fighter or a great fighter. Just complicated.
"He can bring some trouble to somebody who doesn't have that much experience, but definitely he's not bringing any challenge to Mayweather.
"That's not even a question. Logan has a very basic style, he throws the jab, throws his jab, and try to put his right hand in there.
"His defence is pretty good, he's elusive, he can move his head and his reflexes are good. He gets out the way of punches not really by blocking or catching the punches but mostly by evasion.

Ruiz was careful not to criticise Paul too much, however.
"I won't say he's a bad fighter either. He's 0-1, for being 0-1, he's OK. But you can never compare him to Mayweather or any of the greats.
"He has to go through a lot to really be considered a good fighter. You can't be a good fighter just because you have a bunch of followers.
"I do agree he should be given the respect, because he trains and I respect the guy, I have nothing bad to say about the guy. But I'm talking technical stuff. And Mayweather is a hard challenge. If you put Logan in an easier fight, I'm sure he could get some wins."
Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul is set to take place this weekend on June 6 in Miami, Florida.
Headlined by an exhibition between 50-0 Mayweather and 0-1 Paul, the card also features Badou Jack vs. Dervin Colina, the boxing debut of former NFL star Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson, and the return of Viddal Riley, who many may know as the former boxing trainer of YouTuber KSI.
