Joe Joyce forced to share trainer with US-based fighters ahead of Dubois clash

Joe Joyce finished his training camp without head coach Ismael Salas alongside him.

But the Brit will have his Cuban trainer in his corner this weekend for his British, Commonwealth and European title clash with Daniel Dubois.

Salas jetted into the UK in October to help his man start preparations for his British, Commonwealth and European title clash with Daniel Dubois this weekend.

He trained Joyce for a few weeks but then flew back to Las Vegas.

That is because he is juggling camps for three of his fighters with Julio Ceja and Felix Verdejo training in the Nevada city.

Ceja is fighting a week on Saturday in Texas while Verdejo is in action on December 12 in Las Vegas.

Salas travelled to London at the weekend to be in Joyce's corner for the clash with Dubois.

The Cuban was allowed to enter the country under the elite athlete exemption without quarantine and underwent standard testing in line with British Boxing Board of Control rules over Covid-19.

Salas has been in constant contact with Joyce and coach Steve Broughton, who has been putting the Londoner through his paces, while in the US so the Brit is confident his absence won't wreck his chances against Dubois.

Joyce also has a good relationship with Broughton, who has worked alongside a number of top coaches including Salas and Shane McGuigan, and was happy with Salas going back to the US.

Broughton has been part of Joyce's team since he turned professional in 2017 and was in the corner for his last fight against Michael Wallisch in July as Salas couldn't get into the country because of coronavirus restrictions.

Joyce did travel to Las Vegas to train with Salas back in February but had to fly home a month later when lockdown hit around the world.
