Jake Paul refuses to apologise for heated altercation with Tyron Woodley’s mum
Jake Paul has refused to apologise after a skirmish involving members of his team and Tyron Woodley's family, including his mother, broke out during the press conference on Thursday.
The YouTube star was not directly involved when an altercation was sparked after the pair's press conference for their fight on Sunday, but a number of his teammates were.
The incident took place when a fitness trainer of Paul's, who goes by the nickname DCUT, told Woodley's team "this isn't third grade" after a comment was made during the face-off about Woodley's mother.
And speaking after the incident, the YouTube star said that he wouldn't be apologising to his rival ahead of Sunday night.
“Hell no – we’re not sorry,” Paul told MMA Junkie after the incident. “We’re not sorry at all.
"Should we not have done it? Maybe. But we’re not sorry.”
He added that he didn't want there to be any sort of incident, and said that he admits it was not a good look ahead of one of the biggest pay-per-view fight cards of the year.
“Of course [he didn't want the altercation to take place],” Paul continued. “This is Women’s Equality Day.
"If it was literally anything else, I’m just sitting there talking about how much I love my mom, how much I love my girlfriend, and of course, there has to be an altercation involving females.
"It sucks. Just everything about it just looks messy. We’re trying to have a professional event here, and now things are more personal.
"We' re probably going to need more security at all these places – things just aren’t cordial anymore. Tensions will definitely be higher going into this fight.”
Paul also said that he was surprised to see an incident between Woodley's mother and his team, as she had become friendly with his mother during their previous press conferences.
A photo went viral from the first face-off between the pair in June where Paul's mother Pam Stepnick was hugging Mrs Woodley, but it appears that any friendliness between the two camps is now gone.
“It’s really weird,” Paul admitted. “They [the two parents] have been friends since they first met in Miami at the first face-off ever.
"My mom and Tyron’s mom, they’ve sat together and talked. It just seems weird. How did this happen? Everyone got involved and s*** talk and accusation and everything going back and forth. It’s just messy.
“I think it’s more personal for me now too, just seeing his team act the way they did – he's probably sitting there saying the same thing.
"He wants to get all gangster, but they were also being super disrespectful. My team is being professional. Were they in the wrong? Yeah.
"But they’re never just going to come out of pocket and just act up like that, there had to have been something that built up, then it explodes. Everything is more personal, and I’ll make him and his team pay for that.”
