Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao could meet again in tag team clash with KSI

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao could be set to face off once more in a historic tag-team boxing clash with KSI.

Billed as the 'fight of the century', Mayweather, 46, and Pacquiao, 44, staged a 12-round thriller at The MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2015 as the American edged the contest via unanimous decision (116-112, 116-112, 118-110). The bout was bought by a staggering 4.4m at the pay-per-view box office, racking in over £500m as the most lucrative fight of all time.

And while rematch talks have broken down on numerous occasions, boxing fans might finally witness Mayweather vs Pacquiao II – in an all-new tag-team format.

The concept was tested by KSI's MisFits Boxing company earlier this month as Luis Pineda and BDave met IcePoseidon and Anthony Vargas on the undercard of Jay Swingler v Nicholai Perrett. Proving a huge fit amongst fans watching online, BDave wielded the second-round TKO over Poseidon with a cacophony of blows against the ropes.

Now Happy Punch Promotions are vying to draw more attention to the fresh format by adding world-class fighters Mayweather and Pacquiao as headline acts for the next tag-team event.

The promotion company have stated a match that would see Mayweather and KSI pitted against Filipinos Pacquiao and Salt Papi is "officially in the works".

Since retiring in 2017, Mayweather has continued to live up to his nickname. 'Money' has fought six exhibition bouts to bank more than £100m. Meanwhile, Pacquiao turned to politics after hanging up the gloves in 2021, polling third in the Philippines presidential election the following year.

KSI's manager Mams Taylor said of the format: "Tag team baby, tag team – and this is the thing, people will hate on it, people will love it, people will understand, some won’t. But at the end of the day this is what Misfits is about. We’ve got serious competition in there.

"We have fun. We have antics. We have sports entertainment and that’s what we’re about. So get used to it. Love it, lump it, whatever you want. But at the end of the day we’re here to stay and we’re here to create some noise in an area which it’s never been done before. Real combat sports with real entertainment on another level."
