Eddie Hearn plays down fears over AJ's chin despite dramatic body transformation
Eddie Hearn has dismissed the notion Anthony Joshua’s slimmer frame will make him more vulnerable to Andy Ruiz Jr’s power.
Joshua showed off a drastic body transformation at the weigh-ins on Friday, losing ten pounds from the first fight.
The British heavyweight weighed in at 237lbs (16st 13lbs), three stone lighter than Ruiz Jr, and Hearn was asked how a leaner Joshua might play into his rival’s hands.
‘He’s probably about three pounds lighter than when he boxed (Wladimir) Klitschko,’ Hearn told IFL TV.
‘His punch resistance wasn’t too bad that night, was it?
‘He got up off the deck. He got smashed to pieces with every shot in the book in the fifth round and kept on coming.
‘He is pumped for the this fight, I am so fucking pumped for this fight. Nervous, excited – everything. I want him to win so bad.’
While Joshua sported a slimmer figure, Ruiz Jr surprised fight fans by weighing in heavier than the first fight.
Ruiz Jr had said he planned to lose eight pounds for the rematch, but the scales read he was 15lbs heavier than his previous weigh-in.
Hearn was quick to play down Ruiz Jr’s weight gain, saying: ‘Ruiz 20st 3lbs… I’ve got a lot of respect for Ruiz because when I’ve eaten a lot I don’t want to take my top of either.
‘I’ve said I don’t think it matters about Ruiz’s weight. What is he ten pound heavier? AJ is ten or eleven pounds lighter.
‘He is fired up like a stallion ready to go for this fight. The way everyone looks on the scales, I don’t think it matters that much.
‘It’s a 50/50 fight and I believe AJ will knock him out inside eight rounds.’
