Sharpshooter leaves NBA in disbelief

STEPH Curry reiterated his place atop the list of the games best ever shooters with a scintillating display against the Washington Wizards.

The two-time MVP was on fire as he torched the Wizards for 51 points in only 31 minutes of playing time.

His incredible display saw him go 15-24 from the field as he knocked down an absurd 11 three-pointers.

He got the party started in the opening term as he burst out of the gates and finished the opening term with 23 points.

Curry had the crowd up and out of their seats and helped his side to the 115-97 lead after three quarters.

With his 11 made threes in the clash he now moves into fifth on the all-time list of three-pointers made as his career tally moves to 2162.

Kyle Korver is next on the list with 52 more, but at the rate he’s shooting this season he’ll move into the top four in no time.

“I’m just playing with confidence and playing within myself,” Curry said after the game.

He then sat out the entire fourth quarter as his teammates continued to pile on in the final term as they claimed the 144-122 win.

Through five games the Warriors sit at 4-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the Denver Nuggets, away from home.

His unbelievable efforts lead longtime NBA reporter and TV personality Stephen A Smith to label him the “Greatest shooter in the history of basketball”.

The numbers from Curry’s incredible start to the season have seen him hit a total of 33 three-pointers, more than the New Orleans Pelicans (32), Los Angeles Clippers (29), Cleveland Cavaliers (28) and Oklahoma City Thunder (26).

An even more incredible number is the feat of hitting 11 threes in a single game. An effort no NBA player has ever achieved, whereas Steph has done it six times.

While Curry topped the scoresheet with 51 points, Kevin Durant scored 30 and Klay Thompson dropped 19. Meaning the trio combined for 100 points, the first time three teammates have done so since 2009.

Steph Curry is the greatest shooter of all time. He does it under duress, he creates his own offense, he does it going left, right, pulling up in the half-court and open floor, and off-balanced. He is a spectacular, transcendent talent and it is the ultimate joy to watch him.

“Some of the shooting was just mind boggling, nobody has ever done what he’s doing,” coach Steve Kerr said after the game.

“Pulling up from … I don’t know 30 feet. Seemed like some of the ones he missed where from even further. I wasn’t even mad that he took them.

“The guys taking 40 footers and you’re sitting on the sidelines going ‘yeah that’s a good shot’. We’ve never seen this before.”

‘GREEK FREAK’ MAKES HISTORIC START

Ben Simmons missed Philadelphia’s loss to Detroit yesterday with back tightness but he wasn’t suffering any lingering effects as he exploded against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Simmons recorded his second triple-double of the season with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, but his efforts fell short of toppling his Eastern Conference Rivals.

The loss takes the 76ers to 2-3 on the season while keeping the Bucks’ perfect start in tact at 4-0.

Milwaukee superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was simply unstoppable as he recorded 32 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.

His absurd start to the season has him equalling the legendary Wilt Chamberlain as the first player since 1965/66 to record four straight games of 25 points and 15 rebounds.

Simmons and his 76ers got off to a hot start as they jumped out of the gates and sprinted away to an early 12 point advantage.

But then the momentum shifted and behind Antetokounmpo, the Bucks came roaring back into the contest.

A 49-30 term handed the Bucks the advantage and from there they never looked back as they went on to claim the 123-108 victory.

Simmons missed the teams last clash against the Detroit Pistons through back tightness and despite coach Brett Brown stating he was a gametime decision, the Aussie took his place in the starting line-up.

While the statline from Simmons is impressive, his shooting woes reared their head once again as he shot a lowly 2-6 from the free throw line.

On the other side of the ball it was Antetokounmpo who proved simply unstoppable for the 76ers’ defence.

The towering forward, who is a contender for the MVP this season, did as he pleased as he picked apart the Philly team.
