Breaking news: Maria Cummins has died
Cricket Australia has just confirmed the sad news. Maria Cummins, Pat’s mother, has passed away.
Pat Cummins has been away from the team to be by her side as she entered palliative care. She had been battling serious illness.
Australia will wear black armbands in her honour.
A century that means so much to Khawaja
All eyes will be on Usman Khawaja to see if he can turn this innings into something even more substantial that could set Australia up to go 2-2 in the series.
It’s clear he’s in a great spot mentally.

“Throughout the middle of my career, I got told I couldn’t play spin and that’s why I never got an opportunity to play in India. I got an opportunity to play in a white ball series a few years ago and was man of the series, got an opportunity here again with the red ball,” he said yesterday.
“It’s just nice to go out there and tick off a hundred in India, which was something if you asked me five years ago, if you told me that, I’d think you were crazy. There was a lot of emotion. I just never expected this to happen.”
Those quotes are from Brettig’s piece on the context behind Khawaja’s ton, which you can read here.
G’day and welcome
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the fourth and final Test match of Australia’s tour of India, where the tourists resume on day two at 4-255 and have high hopes of tying the series.
Usman Khawaja is leading the way with an unbeaten 104, one of his finest Test centuries, and will continue his promising 85-run partnership with Cameron Green, who is on 49.
Daniel Brettig is our man at Narendra Modi Stadium but I am Vince Rugari and I have come off the bench to steer our blog today.
An interesting day of cricket ahead. The first ball will be bowled at 3pm AEDT.
