Khabib Nurmagomedov sends classy message to Tony Ferguson after lifting lid on UFC return
Last month, it emerged that Ferguson’s wife had filed a restraining order against her husband following a string of alarming behavioural incidents.
The restraining order alleged domestic violence, though Cristina Ferguson later stated ‘El Cucuy’ had never threatened her or their two-year-old son.
Ferguson was inundated with well-wishes from UFC fans and fellow fighters after the news of his personal struggles became public knowledge.
And Nurmagomedov has joined that group by sending his own message to the fan-favourite.
“I really didn’t want to go into details, because I myself wouldn’t want to have that sort of attention,” the UFC’s lightweight champion told RT when asked for his thoughts on Ferguson’s situation. “I can only imagine how hard it is for him.
“Especially since it’s about his family. Again, I didn’t follow it closely, I just read some things on the internet.
“May God give him good health and the best of luck.
”Sport is sport, but family is family. And let’s hope he’ll return. It’s very strange to see him away, he has an 11-fight win streak in the lightweight division. And now he’s on the sidelines.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov on Tony Ferguson
Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been scheduled to fight one another a staggering four times but have yet to lock horns, much to the frustration of the entire MMA world.
Russia’s first UFC champion is still keen on fighting the Ultimate Fighter season 13 winner, but only once he’s back to full health.
“I guess that just means that at this moment in time he has to go through this test,” he said. “Each person faces their own challenge.
“Some people get ill, some people let money or fame go to their heads, some people drink. Someone is a champion who doesn’t have time for training.
”So each person faces their own challenge. And it looks like he will have to go through his own challenge. Let’s hope he’ll come out as a winner and come back. And hopefully, we’ll fight one day.”
To Nurmagomedov, a fight with Ferguson is the ‘most-anticipated’ UFC history.
“It’s a great fight,” ‘The Eagle’ said. “It’s one of the best.
“Not even one of the best, it’s the most anticipated fight in the UFC.
“I’ve been told about it by the UFC owners, because they monitor what people say on the internet.
”This is the most anticipated fight at the moment. So let’s hope he comes back.”
Nurmagomedov, 30, is currently serving a nine-month suspension for his part in the brawl which followed his UFC 229 victory over Conor McGregor last October.
The Dagestan native will be eligible to fight from July 6 onwards but is currently eyeing a September return to the Octagon.
