Luis Suarez’s message to critics who claim Barcelona have lost their swagger
Luis Suarez pointed critics towards the La Liga table as his team again failed to impress this weekend – but he thinks he knows why Barcelona have gone off the boil.
It’s three tame draws in a row for the leaders after firing blanks against Athletic Bilbao.
It came days after Barca wasted home advantage in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against bitter rivals Real Madrid .
It could have been a whole lot worse for them on Sunday as they were indebted to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen for a string of fine saves.
The timid 0-0 draw was their third unconvincing display in a row but speaking to Movistar Partizado , Suarez appeared to be unmoved by their sluggish recent displays.
"We are still leaders" he stressed as they maintain a six-point advantage.
"The important thing is that we have a good advantage, that we are still leaders and we did not lose.
"We have had many games in a row and that shows. We lacked communication between the players, but they are small details. We have to ask for more of the ball
"Ter Stegen has once again demonstrated that he is one of the best in the world"
"Today he has shown that to everyone again."
Coach Ernesto Valverde accepts his side are lacking a cutting edge in front of goal.
“We couldn’t really get going in the last third of the field. We thought the game would have more rhythm and it just didn’t turn out like that,” the Barca boss told BT Sport.
“We’re just responsible for what we do and I think in general, we should have created more than we did.
“They pressed us high, but we did get through that and we did get through to their box.
“But then that left us exposed to counter-attacks and they created problems.”
