Barcelona are in talks to sign Red Bull Salzburg left back Gideon Mensah on a season-long loan.

The Ghana Under 23 international impressed scouts during a recent friendly against Real Madrid and that performance alerted a number of other European clubs.

Barca are discussing the prospect of a temporary switch that would see the 21-year-old train with their first team and play for the club’s second team in the Spanish Segunda B.

Red Bull Salzburg defender Gideon Mensah is closing in on a loan move to Barcelona

The La Liga champions would have the option to buy Mensah at the end of the season should a move to the Nou Camp materialise.

Mensah spent the second half of last term with Salzburg’s Austrian Bundesliga rivals Sturm Graz, making 10 appearances.

Gent, currently fifth in the Belgian top flight, are also interested in signing the youngster.
