MLB hot stove: Phillies acquire J.T. Realmuto from Marlins

The Marlins finally have traded catcher J.T. Realmuto.

The Phillies have acquired the All-Star for top-30 prospect Sixto Sanchez, former top prospect catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitcher Will Stewart and international slot money, the teams announced Thursday.

The Miami Marlins have acquired catcher Jorge Alfaro, right-handed pitcher Sixto Sánchez, left-handed pitcher Will Stewart and international bonus pool money from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for catcher J.T. Realmuto.

The Phillies emerged as a candidate to acquire Realmuto earlier in the week and became a true possible landing spot when Sanchez became involved in the conversation.

Sanchez, 20, has a plus-plus fastball with two above-average breaking pitches. While he is undersized at 6-feet tall, he is seen as one of the top right-handed pitching prospects in the game.

Alfaro had a good season last year, batting .262 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs. He has been on the radar as one of the top catching prospects in the game for several years.

Philadelphia acquired him from the Rangers in the Cole Hamels trade in July.
