Michael Vaughan forced to backtrack after controversial Donald Trump-Brexit view
Former England captain Michael Vaughan knows what it takes to be a leader – having led his side to that famous 2005 Ashes win.
Remember that? It was long. It was a battle, and no one really knew how it was going to go as it dominated the country.
Just the right practice to have a clear view on how to get us out of this Brexit mess, right?
Er, no, if public opinion is anything to go by.
Yesterday was dramatic in Westminster as Prime Minister Theresa May survived a vote of no confidence.
And as the vote was gearing up, Strictly Come Dancing star Vaughan tweeted: "Give me a Donald Trump style leader over any of our leaders any day of the week…."
Yep, according to Vaughan, what we need to solve this crisis is a wall building, Orange tornado who doesn’t believe in climate change.
Is he really the man? If you want Great British stubborness, surely you’ll pile your support behind Geoff Boycott to sort out this mess.
As you can probably imagine, this Trump view didn’t go down well with followers.
Some, like former England midfielder Peter Reid, said: "have a wine mate", while others wondered if he’d been hacked, or was drunk.
Another said: "Which bit appeals Michael? The racism? The misogyny? The sexual abuse? The climate change denial? The continuous stream of blatant lies? The undermining of historical alliances? The golf?"
And they were the nice ones…
Author and Celebrity Masterchef winner Emma Kennedy simply told him he’d regret that tweet.
And he surely did.
Hours later Vaughan tweeted: "Note to self … Don’t ever mention DT on twitter again in any way shape or form !!! Cheers …."
And he was quickly summed up by one follower: "tbh you’re prone to some weird tweets from time to time, Michael."
